Imphal, April 03 2024:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has lodged complaints to Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Manipur demanding legal action against a newly established television channel and Independent candidate for Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency for 18th Lok Sabha election M Totomsana, who allegedly threatened to kill chief minister N Biren Singh during a discussion aired by the television channel on Tuesday.
After submitting the complaints to the CEO, BJP Manipur Pradesh state secretary Sarat told media persons that M Totomsana took part a TV discussion organised by the TV channel at Imphal Hotel on Tuesday during which Totomsana threatened to kill CM N Biren Singh.
As such the CEO Manipur has been urged to initiate legal action against the candidate, he reasoned.
Expressing remorse over the programme organised by the TV channel, Sarat contended there were signs of the television channel conducting the programme without any guidelines as it was possible that the unruly remarks could have been averted if guidelines were issued prior to actual conduct of the programme and the candidate concerned advised to maintain decorum.
Even though the candidate made excessive remark to kill CM, there was no apology from the side of the candidate and accordingly the BJP moved ahead by lodging the complaint, Sarat reasoned.
He also opined that the TV channel should set certain parameters white conducting discussion relating to election and no panellists should be allowed to speak whatever they like in such programmes.
In connection with the incident, complaints to take legal action against the candidate and the TV channel were filed at CEO Manipur, he added.
