Imphal, April 03 2024:
Asserting that the Indian National Congress (INC) candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha election have been selected from amongst the public, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president K Meghachandra stated that victory of the candidates will be triumph of the public whereas loss will be considered as a defeat of the public.
Speaking in a meeting of Imphal West-2 District Congress Committee at Congress Bhawan, here, on Wednesday, Meghachandra appealed to the public to collectively work for electing able leaders to find solution of the humanitarian crisis besieging the state.
Meghachandra also maintained that nominees of the INDIA bloc for both the Inner and Outer Manipur parliamentary constituencies are the fittest candidates who have great love for their motherland.
Though they represent the Congress party, they have been identified and selected from amongst the public, he claimed.
While observing that Manipur is facing serious threat of balkanisation as there are many pseudo leaders who seldom think or work for welfare of the people and do not understand public sentiment, Meghachandra said that INDIA Bloc considers the candidates as 'People's Candidates' as they are fit and courageous enough to represent the people of Manipur in the Parliament and shake the whole of India.
The Congress state chief also noted that people from across the globe shared their grief and sorrow on the humanitarian crisis in Manipur lingering for over 10 months, contrary to which the three MPs of Manipur were seemingly oblivious to the distressful situation as could be comprehended from their eerie silence in the Parliament.
Further stating that Prime Minister Narendra Modi never consoled the people of Manipur whereas a Manipur MP, who is also the union minister, failed to bring up the state's issue and discuss the same with the Prime Minister, he said INDIA Bloc selected candidates from amongst the public who could speak for the state in the Parliament.
Stating that Manipur will not exist if the present political trend continues, the Congress president said that since BJP has not done anything worthwhile for the people of Manipur, we need to understand that there is nothing to expect from the BJP, which merits a befitting lesson by the public.
The meeting was also attended by party leaders and members of Imphal West-2 District Congress Committee.
