Imphal, April 03 2024:
A two-day academic discourse on "Fabricated History of Manipur" organised by Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) got underway on Wednesday at Castle Hotel, Palace Gate.
Delivering the introductory speech of the discourse, KSA president Sukham Bidyananda cautioned all concerned that intellectuals belonging to the Kuki community have been distorting history with the ultimate aim to marginalise or dilute real history of Manipur.
Accusing the Kuki intellectuals of rewriting concocted history consequently creating an uncertain future for Manipur, he expressed concern that Kukis' attempt to destroy the 'Idea of Manipur' through their community-centric nationalism will ultimately sow the seed of distrust and hatred among the people and lead the future generation to the wrong path.
If the wrong history is not corrected in time, it will not be long when the wrongs are accepted as genuine history.
The KSA president also expressed as that articles penned by Kuki intellectuals are being published in reputed journals on a regular basis, it is high time to rectify false information being articulated to the public by the Kukis academically.
Maintaining the discourse has been specifically envisioned to pick out misleading contents in historical write-up, Bidyananda expressed concern that history of Manipur could be completely diluted and the future generation led astray if the fabricated Manipur history being propagated by the Kukis is not faced academically.
As the moderator, Impact TV chief editor Rupachandra Yumnam said that the discourse is being held to ensure that issues and problems confronting contemporary society due to fabrication of history by the Kukis do not confuse the future generations.
He also stressed the need to politically, legally and academically face attempts being made to distort and fabricate the history of Manipur and called upon the participants to delve into the core of the issue and discuss means to provide an academically strong response.
The programme was also attended by Moirang College principal Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh, MU Department of Ancient History and Archaeology guest faculty RK Jackson, DM University's Political Science associate professor Dr Arambam Noni and Waikhom Mani Girls' College history lecturer Sorokhaibam Nabachandra as speakers.
