Double murder: Offices locked, DMU shutdown announced

Meira Paibi members in different areas on Wednesday locked down government offices as part of the people's non-cooperation movement.
Announcing the movement during a meeting of Meira Paibis in Imphal West held on Wednesday, one Thoudam Thoibi strongly condemned the brutal killings of the two young students and announced launch of people's non-cooperation movement.
In connection with the movement, several government offices were locked by the Meira Paibis.
She continued that as mothers, they are pained by the murder of the two students.
She then questioned why CM Biren is apathetic to the murder of the two students, when he was quite vocal in condemning the viral video of the naked parading of two women.
Thoibi also urged the government employees to support the movement, while mentioning lack of any disciplinary action against Kuki employees who have missed work.
She appealed to all Meira Paibis and local clubs to extend their cooperation to the movement.
As part of the people's non-cooperation movement, the Meira Paibis requested the Central Agricultural University, Iroisemba and the DC office not to open their offices.
In denunciation of the double murder, Coordinating Body of DMU Constituent Colleges Student's Union has announced boycott of classes and administrative blocks of all constituent colleges of Dhanamanjuri University (DMU) until the culprits involved in the brutal murder of Phijam Hemjit and Linthoingambi Hijam are arrested.
On Wednesday, large number of student members of the Co-ordinating Body took out a mass silent rally from DM College and proceeded towards Kangla.
When the rallyists reached near Kangla gate, the police personnel already deployed in the area stopped and prevented them from proceeding further.
As the news of the students stopped by the police near Kangla gate was received, women vendors of Ima Market rushed to the spot fearing possibility of unwanted incidents happening to the students.
Later, the police allowed 20 of the students to meet the chief minister.
After meeting with the chief minister, Laimayum Shelly Sharma, a post graduate Student at DMU, said that the student union met the chief minister based on 4 points of demands which include boycott of classes and administrative blocks of all constituent colleges of DMU till the culprits are arrested; to arrest the culprits within three days; lift the ban on internet; and that the government should take all responsibilities of those hurt in the police crackdown.
She further informed that the chief minister agreed to all the demands with exception to the second demand which is related to arresting the culprits within three days saying that it would not be possible to do so within the said period.
Since the chief minister could not fulfil the demand of arresting the culprits within three days, the Coordinating Body will carry out the agitation of boycot ting classes and administrative blocks of all constituent colleges till the culprits are arrested, she added.
On the other-hand, expressing strong condemnation over the execution of two students and terming the incident as an act of terrorism committed by Kuki terrorists, TG Higher Secondary School Students' Union has called for a united voice against terrorism.
In a statement, the union said that the two students were executed by Kuki terrorists in cold blood and the two and half months old incident came to public knowledge after the photos of the two in the captivity and lifeless bodies lying on the ground went viral on social media.
Bereaved families want the bodies so that their last rites could be conducted honourably.
Unfortunately, the government has not been able to trace their bodies till date.
The students' union strongly condemns the act of terrorism committed against the two students and nothing can justify this heinous crime, she said and also ridiculed silence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi even after hundreds of people have died and around 80,000 people got displaced in the violence.
Students of the state want peace and restoration of normalcy in the society, the statement added.
