BJP asks Cong to clarify on BC Das' viral video

Imphal, April 03 2024: BJP Manipur Pradesh has demanded clarification from AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on whether or not remark made by former AICC general secretary Bhakta Charan Das on the violence in Manipur reflects stand of the AICC.

The BJP insisted that the Congress leaders make their stand clear amid a video clip of Bhakta Das holding the Meeteis responsible for outbreak of the conflict going viral on social media.

Addressing the media at Thambal Shanglen, here, on Wednesday, BJP Manipur spokesperson Elangbam Johnson said that Sagolband MLA RK Imo had demanded clarification after Bhakta Charan's video went viral on social media.

Accordingly, MPCC spokesperson Th Ratankumar had on Tuesday told the media that the viral post is an old video along with claiming that the video clip has been deleted from AICC archives after Congress leaders came across it in addition to asserting that it was Bhakta Charan's personal views and not the official statement of the party.

Terming Ratankumar's clarification as testimony of lacking maturity and an attempt to cover up the party functionary's attempt to demonise the Meeteis, Johnson maintained that the people of Manipur deserve to hear from AICC president Kharge and Rahul Gandhi on such a sensitive matter.

He also said that Bhakta Charan's statement made it clear that the former AICC general secretary is bereft of knowledge and understanding of the crisis in Manipur.

Charging the Congress party of playing with the sentiment of people of Manipur, the BJP spokesperson also questioned contribution of the Congress to the country and party's decision on NRC and separate administration demand being raised by a specific community.

He also maintained that as Union home minister Amit Shah had made dear on the floor of Parliament that there will be no separate administration in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi or other responsible leaders should place in the public domain Congress party's stand on separate administration.
