CM assures to address woes of Moreh IDPs

Representatives of Meetei Council Moreh (MCM) met chief minister N Biren at his office chamber around 7:30 pm Tuesday, briefing the latter on grievances of the internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Moreh, who are taking shelter in relief camps in different parts of the state.
The chief minister also assured the MCM team of looking into their demands at the earliest.
The MCM team led by its president M Thoiba Singh called on the chief minister in the presence of works minister Govindas Konthoujam, water resources minister Awangbow Newmai, social welfare minister H Dingo and MLA Md Ashab Uddin.
During the meeting, the MCM representatives informed the chief minister that following the attack by Kuki narco-terrorists on May 3 last year in Moreh, where the armed militants burnt down houses, the Meetei people fled the border town to save their lives and are presently taking shelter in relief camps in Imphal.
The displaced people including women and children and elderlies are facing serious inconveniences at present, the representatives said and urged the chief minister to continue paying the monthly monetary assistance of Rs 1000 to the displaced persons.
In addition, the MCM representatives prevailed upon the chief minister to provide the monetary assistance which the government had promised to the students staying in relief camps.
The MCM team also proposed that the government do the needful to ensure return of the internally displaced persons to their respective homes and helped them in re-constructing their destroyed homes.
Moreover, they urged the chief minister to arrange for employment opportunities for the displaced people staying in relief camps.
