Senapati, February 20 2024:
At least four drivers and a handyman were assaulted at Sekmai on February 16 while a Naga hamlet Phyapou was fired upon with automatic rifles from Kangpokpi on the same day, said Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) condemning both the incidents.
SDSA vehemently condemned the ruthless assault and unimaginable cruelty inflicted upon the Nagas on February 16 where unknown assailants mercilessly attacked four drivers and a handyman with second degree assault at Sekmai in Imphal West and the horrifying attack at Phyapou from Songtung, a Kuki village in Kangpokpi on February 16 around 1 pm, it said.
Saying that the repeated assaults of the Nagas are causing a profound sense of dissonance, the SDSA continued that promises made to strengthen relationships have failed to materialize.
The apex students' body of Senapati stated that it is disheartening to observe that both the Meiteis and Kukis are no longer influenced by Constitutional norms or organisational rules.
Justice has repeatedly been overshadowed and downplayed, the SDSA continued and maintained the situation in Manipur poses an existential threat to the Naga communities too.
Urging the relevant authorities to swiftly investigate the two incidents of February 16 and penalise the perpetrators as per the law of the land, the SDSA stated that it is imperative to uphold law and restore faith among the communities to avert further escalation of tension.
The SDSA also urged all stakeholders to come together, prioritize peace, and work towards fostering a society where justice, equality, and respect for each other prevail.
