For the first time in the region, Silica Plastic Block (SPBS) was inaugurated at Senapati for socio-economic, value addition and plastic repurposing.
The Silica Plastic Block (SPB5) project has been installed and inaugurated to witness the convergence of passion, innovation and community welfare through the High-Impact Entrepreneurs from Emerging Regions for Action (HiEERA) practitioners project by the Tribal Spun Repurpose Pvt Ltd (TSRPL).
The programme is an initiative by High-Impact Entrepreneurs from Emerging Regions for Action (HiEERA) practitioners and Tribal Spun Repurpose Private Limited (TSRPL).
Giving a brief introduction about the project, Lokho Paul, Director, Pro Rural & CoFounder, TSRPL called it a milestone not only for the State but also for the entire Northeastern region so as to reduce the threat of plastic pollution.
Notably, HiEERA programme is stated to be facilitated by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) while EMPRETEC India Foundation imparts the education part in India.
Lokho Paul highlighted that the purpose of setting the machine in the heart of the town is not just to produce or to earn by selling the products but mainly to educate and to bring a culture change, a change in one's mindset in treating plastic and domestic wastes.
The Director also stated that there are plans to bring in bigger machines so as to make every individual/family take care of plastic, store the plastic wastes and bring them to the factory for recycling as well as to earn money.
Stressing on the adverse impacts of plastic pollution, he said that raising awareness among the public could ward off different sicknesses and make the factory a success.
Speaking as the chief guest, Panii Ngaonii, Jr MCS, SDC, Senapati expressed serious concern on plastic menace in the district in the absence of a proper recycling policy.
The initiative to install such a project in the town would help in plastic recycling through a proper system of waste collection and segregation to waste disposal and generating employment opportunities for the unemployed youths in the district.
Speaking on PPP-EMPRETEC India, Manish Kothari, MD, Rhino Machine & Co-Founder, TSRPL stated that EMPRETEC is a flagship capacity-building programme of UNCTAD for the promotion of entrepreneurship and micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) to facilitate sustainable development and inclusive growth.
He maintained that the initiative by Makhrelui village to collaborate with HIEERA practitioners is a welcome step towards meeting the long term goals of sustainable development.
The newly installed project will focus on collection of plastic waste, shredding of plastic using shredding machines, heating shredded plastic to mouldable form and pressing heated plastic to usable forms using hydraulic press machines such as flower pots, tea coasters, paper weights, paver blocks, tiles, bricks etc.
