Torch rallies demand additional state forces in Moreh

Imphal, January 17 2024: Consequent to the fresh round of attacks by Kuki militants in Moreh using RPG and snipers that left two CDO personnel dead and scores injured, Meira Paibi activists and youths in different parts of the state took out torch rally on late Wednesday evening demanding the government to scrap Suspension of Operation (SoO) with the Kuki militants, send additional state forces in Moreh, and take up appropriate action against the Kuki militants.

Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel organised a torch rally in Khwairamband Keithel and raised slogans like 'scrap SoO with Kuki militants', 'send additional state force in Moreh', 'Manipur police are people's police', 'Public stand with Manipur Police', 'Let victory be with Manipur Police' .

Large number of Meira Paibi members along Imphal Kangchup road also took out a torch rally up to BT Flyover Bridge shouting similar slogans.

Police forced them to return from Shamu Makhong.

Protestors from different localities along Tiddim road also took out torch rally up to Keishampat Junction, from where police forced them to return.

In Bishnupur district, large number of Meira Paibi members, holding torches, staged protest in front of Bishnupur forest office while demanding deployment of additional state force in Moreh and reinstating charge of Unified Command to the chief minister.

Protestors also demanded state security advisor Kuldiep Singh to relinquish the post.

Similar torch rallies were also organised in Sagolband area, Khurai Lamlong, Kangla Sangomshang and other parts of valley districts as well.

In Kakching district, protestors stormed the houses of Wabagai MLA Dr Usham Deben and Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam demanding disclosure of the government's stand in the current crisis.

MLA Deben was in Imphal at the time and they could not meet him.

Torch rallies were also organised in different localities of the district including Lamjao Awang Leikai, Lamjao Mayai Leikai, Lamjao Makha Leikai, Thounaojam Yangdong, Thongjao, Waikhong, Kakching Khunou, Pangantabi, Chairel, Korshantabi among others.
