DESAM adds suggestion as State gears up to re-open schools

Imphal, July 04 2023: On the eve of "Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand Day", The Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has come up with more suggestions in addition to the previously raised 13-point demand/ suggestion in view of the prevailing restive situation.

There will be no formal observation of the significant "Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand Day" this but its endeavour to develop a vibrant and inclusive educational system in the State in consultation with many social, literary and education organisations will go on, said DESAM in a press statement issued today.

Taking note of the war declared against narco-terrorists on June 7 during a public convention, DESAM said people must win the war.

DESAM also observed the presence of a strong drug syndicate backed by powerful people including lawmakers, bureaucrats, militants.

After successful ventures into drug trade, destroying reserve and protected forest lands, now their objective is separate administration or a homeland, it said.

Keeping in the mind that these people are surrounding the valley people from all sides, efforts should be made to unite all, study the dynamics carefully and cautiously and work out a concerted movement, DESAM said.

DESAM also lists up a set of suggestions/measures to the Government and all sections of the society to keep the economy growing and carry forward the agricultural and education work while taking the restive situation into consideration.

The measures/suggestions are :
1.To assist the Government in re-opening schools and other educational institutes and promote constructive suggestions when issues arise.

Shifting of paramilitary forces from educational institutes to other locations.

Government to come up with a comprehensive policy on this.

2.Appeal to all educated local volunteers to assist in gathering and educating children affected by the crisis.

3.Appeal professional teachers to impart education at available spaces besides their school classes.

Encouragement of a home based educational system.

4.Appeal to local clubs/organisations to ensure children hear educational and morale stories from experienced elders regularly in every locality.

5.To ensure safety to these school going kids through local women groups and dedicated village volunteers round the clock.

Appeal to Government to deploy security personnel at schools.

6.Involvement of guardians in teaching children values, respect and dedication and
7.Ensuring regular counselling of crisis affected people through Psychologists/counsellors.
