Illegal immigrants root cause of Manipur crisis: TNALP

Imphal, July 25 2023: The conflict situation in Manipur is closely related to the influx of illegal immigrants from Myanmar into the state.

Every nook and cranny of the state is slowly being taken over by narco-terrorists.

As such, the government's 'War on Drugs' campaign against narco-terrorists should be supported by the people of Manipur as it is for the future of Manipur.

Thus, deportation of illegal immigrants is the best solution to the prevailing crisis in Manipur, said Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang TNALP (South) or Southern Tangkhul Naga Onion, Manipur.

Addressing a press meet at the Union s branch office at Tangkhul Avenue, here on Tuesday, Union chairman Somi Angkang said that Manipur has been in a state of unrest since the May 3 conflict began.

While there has been rise in drug and human trafficking in hill areas, almost all development works have come to a stop.

The education sector has also been heavily affected.

Political and livelihood matters have been particularly impacted.

Stating that TNALP (South) considers 'illegal immigration' as the root cause behind the conflict, the chairman informed that the Tangkhul-in-habited areas in Manipur are divided into northern, southern, eastern and western zones.

Except for the northern zone, the other three zones are located close to the In-do-Myanmar border spread over 200 km.

However, there is no issue of illegal immigration in Tangkhul-inhabited areas.

Somi continued that in 2017, the CM Biren-led government took up steps to prevent illegal drug trade and influx of illegal immigrants in Manipur so as to protect the indigenous population of the state.

Under his (CM) leadership, the 'War on Drugs' campaign was carried out to curb poppy plantation and drug trafficking in the interest of the future of Manipur, which is highly appreciated, he said, adding that the campaign is supported in all Tangkhul inhabited hill areas and villages.

The state government was able to carry out the 'War on Drugs' campaign in around 95 per cent of the hill areas.

However, the illegal immi grants and narco-terrorists from Myanmar managed to infiltrate into every nook and cranny of the state, and as such, the hill areas have now become a haven for drug and human trafficking.

Thus, the government needs to take up concrete steps to flush out or deport the illegal immigrants to save the future of Manipur and its natives, he contended.

Somi then expressed his appreciation towards the Meira Paibi and the womenfolk of the state who have come forward to save the state.

However, obstructing or blocking people on the road could lead to disagreements or misunderstandings amongst us.

This should be prevented at any cost, he said, while cautioning that these misunderstandings or disagreements could lead the conflict into completely another direction.

Stating that the government is formed by the people and as such, is for the people, the chairman emphasised the importance of the people's support towards the government in solving the prevailing conflict.

It is also time for the government to show its strength and flush out the illegal immigrants to solve the crisis, he contended.
