Villagers of Karam village today holding a public meeting condemned the leveled against two elders of the village as sympathizers of an UG group after arrested by the Imphal West police commandos .
Villagers said that Wangkhem Jadu (62) and Paonam Budhichandra (60) of Karam Awang Leikai, arrested by Imphal West Police commandos from their houses, are innocent people.
The statement of police published on local newspaper today claiming that they are sympathizers of a UG group is baseless and incorrect.
They have no involvement in extortion from any candidate of the ensuing Nagar Panchayat election.
Wangkhem Jadu is a retired excise official and Paonam Budhichandra is a supervisor in the adult education department, speakers in the meeting said and criticised government authorities for involving in dirty politics.
If they are not released without any condition, villagers of Karam village will launch agitation of mass court arrest, the meeting organized under the initiative of the Karam Development Committee warned.
The meeting refuting to the claim made by MPP denied that ther was no incident of quarrel at the village in conneciton with the ensuing election or any incident of throwing MPP flag into the nullah.
The meeting also questioned the possibility of involvement of some police officers of Imphal West police commandos in dirty politics in the ensuing election.
Keeping in view of the development, the meeting appealed to the home department to investigate into the matter.
The meeting also condemned MPP for playing a dirty politics in the area.
Villagers said that there are three councilor candidates in fray for the ensuing Nagar Panchayat Election in Lilong Ward No 6 Karam.
The villagers do not have any grudge against the three candidates.
