Cleanliness drive held

Volunteers of the CCIAN Forum Peace Committee conducted a cleanliness drive/social service around the approach road leading to the relief centre opened at Sendra Park and Resort under Thanga Assembly Constituency today.
This morning, the volunteers cleaned up the untamed bushes and weeds on either side of the approach road as well as plastic bottles and other garbage littering the area.
The inmates of the relief centre who hail from Churachandpur, Torbung and Phoubakchao also joined the drive and lent their wholehearted support.
Speaking in this connection, Takhellambam Robinson, general secretary, CCIAN Forum Peace Committee stated that since May 15, the Committee had extended all sorts of help to the displaced families who had fled from the hometown in the wake of the chaos that has gripped Manipur.
Today's cleanliness drive is a part of the Committee's continued effort to provide help, support and encouragement to the victims of violence, he added."Angomcha Chingkhei, convenor, shared that the Committee was composed of the 1996 and 1998 batch of CC Higher Secondary School.
He also condemned the publication of books with allegedly wrong information by Kuki leaders.
Stating that the Committee has received information about the cultivation of poppy anew in many places, he declared that the Committee will inform the public about this development at a more suitable date along with evidence."It may be noted that the CCIAN Forum Peace Committee also extended monetary donation to the inmates at Sendra Resort relief centre.
Separately, a social service drive was also held today in the surrounding areas of Athokpam Water Supply Scheme.
The cleanliness drive was organised by Athokpam Village Water Supply Sanitation and Management Development Association.
In this regard, Yumchand Basanta, secretary of the Association urged the people to stop using electric water pumps to draw out water from the water supply scheme and also urged them to keep the surrounding areas including the 'Pukhri Achouba' clean.
