Bodies reach out to displaced people, village volunteers

Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Imphal East district i branch distributed essential items provided by Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur and supported by UNICEF to relief camps set up in Imphal East district at Ideal College-Akam-pat, Heingang Kangjeibung, Naorem Birahari College, Bira-mangol College-Sawombung, Ringo Club Keibi Heikak-mapal, Khundrakpam MLA's residence, Veterinary Guest House-Porompat, Bright Ca-reer-Lamlai, OBC Girls Hos-tel-Urup, Keibi Taret Khun, Yambem High School, Central High School-Chalou and Pukhao Laipham.
A release issued by IRCS, Imphal East informed that the district branch and Panthoibi Women Association Meira Paibi Kongba Uchekort Khunou extended financial assistance to relief camp set up at Biramangol College, Bright Career Acade-mv, Central High School, MLA Achoibam Deben residence at Lamlai and Keibi Taret Khun.
Meanwhile, Karam Awang Leikai Meira Paibi and Karam Awang leikai Youong Club extended monetary assistance to volunteers who are guarding Senjam Chirang village from attacks by armed Kuki militants since outbreak of the ethnic violence in the state.
Speaking to reporters, meira paibi Sunibala drew attention of the government authorities to take punitive action against armed Kuki militants who are persistently attacking Meitei villages located along the foothills.
In view of the government's failure to protect the peripheral villages, locals have been shouldering the responsibility to repulse the attacks by Kuki militants.
Further stating that many locals are volunteering to protect the village despite casualties and injuries suffered by some, she urged the state and the central governments to take up effective measures for bringing an end to the ethnic clash between the two communities.
Sunibala also demanded that NRC should be implemented in the state and the tripartite talk between the armed Kuki militants and the central and state governments should be put on hold till cessation of hostillity by the former.
