Thoubal, July 30 2023:
Meeting a great need of the hour, social worker Md Najir Ahmed has made arrangements to irrigate the Mayangpat Loukol in Tulihal under Andro Assembly Constituency today.
In the effort to irrigate these fields, the water of Thoubal River was pumped in the agricultural fields with the employment of seven engines.
Speaking in this connection, Md Najir Ahmed said that shortage of rainfall this year has put a damper on farming activities.
Thus, he made the decision to irrigate these lands in order to alleviate some of the worries that have besieged farmers of the area.
"With the water from the river, we will successfully meet the water requirements in 2/3 of the 100 paris in Mayangpat Loukol," he said while assuring to provide help in the future as well.
Further he shared that efforts are underway to build a road from Eroi Loukol to Poroi Road measuring around 1500 metres in length that will have drains on either side for the convenience of the farmers.
Lauding Md Najir Ahmed's step to irrigate the parched fields, Abdul Hei, president, Mayangpat Loukol Agricultural Development Union pointed out the existence of a River Lift Irrigation (RLI) at Tuhilal but which had been rendered defunct due to the negligence of the department.
Urging the relevant authority to look into this matter, he further appealed to the State Government to improve the drainage system in the region that has made irrigation works much harder.
