Bishnupur, July 30 2023:
A local of Thamnapokpi has drawn the attention of the concerned department on the shortage of drinking water in villages of Moirang.
Speaking to mediapersons during a press briefing at Thamnapokpi Bazar Shed, the unnamed local stressed that the villages of Moirang bordering the Thangjing range have been without proper supply of drinking water for more than two months.
"The water flowing down from the Thangjing range is stored in a reservoir, filtered and then supplied to the villages of Tera Khongshangbi, Tronglaobi, Moirang, Ngangkhalawai, Thamnapokpi, Naranseina etc.
However, a few days after the eruption of clashes in the State, the supply of water has stopped completely", the local said.
It was later reportedly learnt that some of the water pipes had burst and hence the supply of water had halted.
Implying that some of the water pipes had also been stolen the Thamnapokpi resident raised questions as to how the pipes burst and how they had been stolen.
Further, he urged the concerned officials to inquire "in what ways these pipes had been used by the hill brethren" .
Castigating the apathy of the concerned department to the plight of the locals who have been suffering for more than two months due to lack of water, he appealed to the State Government to ensure proper water supply in the region.
