Eye bank on the card : Health Minister

Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan has announced that the Government is planning to set up an eye bank in the State by October end.
The Minister made the remark during the observance of 24th World Sight Day held at Hotel Classic Grande, Chingmeirong, today.
The programme was organised by National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI) under the theme "Love Your Eyes at Work" .
Spectacles were distributed to six senior citizens during the function while certificates of appreciation were distributed to select ophthalmologists.
Speaking as the chief guest at the function, Dr Ranjan said that people should take utmost care of their eyes and prevent vision loss.

Saying that the plan to set up the eye bank is to enable people donate their eye tissue for transplanting, the Health Minister sought support from the people in the endeavour.
Electronic gadgets have become an indispensable part of human society but prolonged exposure to screens can cause serious damage to the eyes, he cautioned and appealed to the people to go for medical tests if they have any eye-related issue as early as possible.
Informing that both Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) and Chief Ministergee Hakshelgee Tengbang (CMHT) cover facilities for eye treatment too, Dr Ranjan appealed to the people to take the benefit of the Government schemes.
Health Director Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang was the functional president.
He said that there has been an uptick in the number of people with eye disorders since the past few years.
Saying that many people turned blind due to ignorance of eye diseases, he appealed to one and all to take extra care of their eyes to prevent vision loss.
State Mission Director of National Health Mission Dr Somorjit Ningombam and former Director of Health Director Dr Y Yaima were the guests of honour.
