Imphal, April 10 2010:
The indefinite bandh called by the Yurembam, Patsoi, Tabungkhok Land Protection Demand Committee since March 25 on NH 53 would be relaxed for sometime from 3 am of April 12 in view of the Cheiraoba festival which falls on April 14, said a press release issued by the committee.
The committee has been protesting against the Government initiative to acquire agricultural land for construction of power substation of 400 KV capacity.
So far, 13 bandh supporters including 11 women have been apprehended by police.
While the 11 women have been sent to judicial custody, the two men have been remanded to police custody till April 12 .
Saying that a large number of security personnel are being deployed in and around Yurembam in their attempt to pull up protestors, the committee maintained that such efforts of the Government would not succeed in suppressing the people's movement.
