Lions Club of Imphal, Lions District 322D, on Thursday celebrated World Sight Day 2023 on Thursday by distributing spectacles to the inmates of Chanura Leikol Children Home, Khurai.
World Sight Day is observed across the globe on the second Thursday of October every year to raise awareness about blindness and vision impairment.
According to a release issued by Lion Manas Maisnam, secretary of Lions Club of Imphal, the inmates who required spectacles were identified during the Eye-Screening Camp held at the same venue on October 8, 2023 (Lions World Service Day) .
During the event, immediate past president of the Club, Lion Dr P Brajamani gave a talk on keeping healthy eyes and simple precautionary measures that can be taken to assure good eyesight.
He also emphasised on the need to keep good eyes as it increases the productivity of a person by around 22 percent.
Later, the Club distributed awareness pamphlets issued by International Association for Prevention of Blindness (IABP) on this year's theme "Love Your Eyes at Work" to the Children Home.
Moreover, in line with the celebration of World Sight Day, Shija Eye Care Foundation (SECF) organised a Free Eye Check Up Camp at SECF, Langol on Thursday.
During the camp, a total of 189 patients were examined for eye related issues.
28 cataracts, 8 pterygium, 1 chalazion, 1 double eyelid, 2 vitrectomy, 1 DCR and 1 Naevus were diagnosed.
Patients detected with eye related problems will be treated under NPCB (NHM)/CMHT/PMJAY Scheme.
