JAC agrees to claim body

The JAC formed in connection with the killing of Apuna Kamei and the family of the deceased have agreed to claim his mortal remains after arriving at an understanding with Chief Minister N Biren Singh today.
It may be noted that IRB rifleman Prem Kamei alias Apuna Kamei (attached to Manipur Commando) was found dead at Sanjenbam Police Outpost on September 25.Representatives of the JAC met with the Chief Minister around 1 pm today and submitted a six-point memorandum.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting concluded, JAC convenor Meibon Phaomei shared that the Chief Minister had assured to make all efforts to fulfill the demands listed in the memorandum.
Thus, the two parties reached an agreement and the JAC and the victim's family had resolved to claim the body of the deceased.
Some of the demands in the memorandum include terminating the service of the Manipur Police SI allegedly involved in the death of Apuna Kamei and punishing him as per the law and payment of ex-gratia to the family of the deceased, among others.
It is worth mentioning that before meeting with the Chief Minister today, the JAC organised a sit-in protest at Moirangkhom Kabui Khul gate in connection with the killing of Apuna Kamei.
The sit-in protest saw a huge turnout of Kabui womenfolk.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, JAC convenor Meibon Kamei accused SI Yumnam Nongalakpa Mangang alias Pari of committing the cold-blooded murder of Apuna Kamei after both had finished their duty.
He also urged the State Government to dole out stringent punishment to the perpetrators involved.
