Imphal, October 29 2023:
The Indigenous People's Organisation Manipur (IPOM) has resolved to urge the Central and the State Government to end the 'conflict' in Manipur by holding political dialogues with the non-State actors.
The resolution was taken during a people's convention held on "Manipur-India Muknaba amadi Wakheirol" which roughly translates as "The conflict between Manipur and India and the way forward" at the Jubilee Hall of Imphal College at Kwakeithel, today.
At least two resolutions were taken during the convention.
The first resolution states that the Governments at the Centre and the State need to bring the non-State actors to the negotiating table to find a solution to the conflict which is acceptable to both the parties.
Many people have been killed and defiled due to the conflict between the two entities but there is no solution in sight, IPOM said.
The second resolution, on the other hand, agreed to constitute a Peace Commission to implement the first resolution.
Members of the Peace Commission will be selected by IPOM.
The convention was attended by former acting Chairperson of Manipur Human Rights Commission Senior Advocate Khaidem Mani as chief guest, IPOM president Advocate Y Devadutta as president and retired Professor of Department of History, Manipur University N Joykumar, faculty member of Political Science of IGNTU-RCU Dr Homen Thangjam and Resident Editor of Huiyen Lanpao Dr Khaidem Athouba Meetei as guests of honour.
At the function, Advocate Y Devadutta asked for how long will this conflict between Manipur and India persist in the name of people without putting any thought on a solution.
He said the convention was organised to understand and review what people think of the conflict.
