Imphal, October 29 2023:
Accusing the Central leadership of ignoring the burning issue in Manipur, Congress MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar has asked whether non-reinstating Chief Minister N Biren Singh as the head of of the Unified Command till now is an indication that an undeclared President's Rule (PR) has been imposed in Manipur.
The MLA of Khundrakpam AC raised the query while coming to claim the mortal remains of Laimayum Prem (19) at JNIMS who died today.
Notably, Prem, a resident of Khundrakpam Awang Leikai, was undergoing treatment at Raj Medicity for over four months after he sustained bullet wounds in Kuki militants' attack on the intervening night of June 12 and 13 .
The body of Prem has been taken to Khundrakpam Awang Leikai by a large number of people to perform the last rites.
Speaking to the media, the Congress MLA continued that Union Ministers frequented Manipur at the time of election but they are nowhere to be seen when the State needs them the most.
Urging the Centre and the State Government to restore normalcy in Manipur and also stop the illegal immigrants and narco-terrorists who have been scheming to divide Manipur by driving a wedge between the two communities, Lokeshwar asked why the violence is lingering for almost half a year despite all the tall assurances given by the Centre and the State Government.
He also asked why Prime Minister Narendra Modi is not making any statement to end the violence which will complete six months in a couple of days.
