Imphal, October 29 2023:
Chief Minister N Biren Singh's visit to Keirak to break ground for construction of an indoor stadium was greeted by hundreds of protesters including displaced people from Moreh in Kakching today.
The Chief Minister was travelling to Keirak Kangjeibung via Kakching at around 10 am.
The demonstration organised by Langsai Thouna saw protesters rallying in silence.
The protesters had their eyes, ears and mouths gagged with clothes depicting Delhi's silence on the Manipur issue and the State Government's inaction.
Langsai Thouna convener Rajiv Kshetri said the protest was taken out against Government's inaction on the issue of the thousands of displaced folks of Moreh and other places.
He said the present conflict which started on May 3 has displaced over 4,300 people from Moreh who are now taking shelters in relief camps in Kakching and other places.
The silent protest was organised to denounce the Centre's and State Government failure to bring normalcy and allow the displaced people to return to their homes.
The Government is not seen taking any steps to facilitate the return of displaced people to their homes in Moreh and other places, he said.
The Chief Minister has not yet visited the affected villages at the fringes.
This is unfortunate, he said.
