International Sport Climber K Surjit no more, MMTA condoles

The Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) has extended heartfelt condolences over the demise of international Sport Climber Kangujam Surjit at his Bashikhong Loumanbi residence on September 6.
Surjit was 27 when he breathed his last, said MMTA in a condolence note.
The association convened a condolence meeting and observed 2 minute silence at MMTA Yaipha Shanglen, Minuthong to mourn the demise of the adventurer who was actively involved in conducting many Adventure and Basic Mountaineering, Sport Climbing and Paragliding Courses in the State as instructor.
MMTA also noted that Surjit, born to late K Mangol Singh and L K (O) Gambhini Devi was the only Power Paragliding Pilot of the association to have qualified National Level Sport Climbing Route Setter (IMF) .
MMTA also fondly recalled the contributions of Surjit who had also participated in many State level, National and international sport climbing events since 2008 before becoming Route setters at various events and eventually a coach at MMTA under MASCA, during the condolence meeting.
Notably, Surjit won a silver and a bronze medal respectively in the lead and speed climbing events in the 16th National Sports Climbing Competition held in 2010 at New Delhi; gold and a bronze medal in speed and lead climbing events at Open National Junior and Sub-Junior Climbing Competition held in Bangalore in 2011; silver in speed climbing at the Open National Sports Climbing Competition 2014 held in Bangalore; speed gold at All India Open Sport Climbing Competition held in Kolkata; lead gold and speed silver at Mizoram Climbing Invitational Tournament 2015 held in Aizawl and a lead silver at the 22nd National Climbing Championship 2016 held in Bangalore besides participating in Asian events organised in Singapore Iran etc.
MMTA, while sharing the pain of the bereaved family members, also prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
