Imphal, September 07 2022:
Women Action for Development (WAD) strongly condemned the physical assault and inhuman act inflicted on 65 years old Ningthoujam Mangolnganbi Devi who is a resident of Tera Khuraijam Leirak.
Mangolnganbi runs a fish vendor at the roadside of Tera Lukram Leirak Machin for her livelihood.
It may be noted that she was physically assaulted by Haobijam Babuchouba Singh of Tera Sapam Leirak who is serving as a sub Inspector of Telecom (Wireless) Department Government of Manipur on September 4 last around 8.30 pm in a drunken state, said a press release by Program Coordinator of WAD.
Mangolnganbi sustained severe injuries due to the physical assault inflicted on her and was admitted at the hospital.
WAD maintained that it is very unfortunate that a man who is serving for the state Home Department has committed such kind of physical assault to an aged woman who is also a widow.
A team of WAD visited the family and the family members have informed that doctor has advised Mangolnganbi to take rest and stop working for 3 months which is very unfortunate as she is the bread earner of the family.
WAD also urged the Governor and the Chief Minister to look into the matter and take strict actions against the accused at the earliest.
In this connection, WAD has filed a complaint with Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) seeking for directing the Police to register an FIR and ensure prompt, thorough and impartial investigation, added the release.
