Imphal, September 07 2022:
Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) has expressed serious concern over shortage of basic infrastructures and teachers at Paobitek High School, where 231 students studying in Class I to X attend classes only three days in a week.
According to FESOK publicity secretary S Preety, a team of the students' body led by vice president Ronald Kenedy Longjam on Wednesday inspected condition of Paobitek High School located under the jurisdiction of Wangoi Assembly constituency.
During inspection visit to the school, which has been included under the phase-II of 'School Fagathansi Mission', it was found that the school has no kitchen and toilet.
Subsequently, lack of kitchen has deprived the students of their mid-day meal.
Moreover, as per the order issued by Education (S), the school timing is from 8 am to 2 pm but no students and teachers were present at the school until 1 pm.
Some teachers even signed out at 2.30 pm in the attendance register, she conveyed.
Pointing out that construction of two rooms in the school has completed but finishing touch is yet to be given, she cautioned that school management committee (SMC) and FESOK will use a new lock and utilise it as class rooms if the authorities do not commence class in the two rooms without any dispute within 5 days.
She further informed that the school has only eight teachers and one office assistant with seven locals assisting the teachers without any honorarium in the interest of the students.
While urging authorities concerned to ensure adequate class rooms and teachers for the students, Preety called for not reducing the 'School Fagathanshi Mission' only a table work and appealed for a joint effort for bringing quality education.
Lauding the assurance of the education minister for rationalisation of school and college teachers by the end of October, she expressed hope that the minister will translate his assurance into action this time.
