Preparations begin for Sangai festival

The Directorate of Art and Culture has invited applications with new creative/innovative dance or musical composition based on traditional/classical/folk/tribal performing arts of Manipur from registered cultural institutions/organisations working for preserving and promoting Manipuri culture for the upcoming Manipur Sangai Festival, 2022-Cultural Programme.
In a notification, Art and Culture director L Kishworjit Singh informed that institutions/organisations have to submit detailed profile and postal address of the institu-tion/organisation with contact number of the president/secretary; synopsis/concept note of the proposed item and high quality performance CD/DVD of the proposed item (only one item from an institution), performance to be of 10-12 minutes duration, along with the application.
Informing that the last date for entries of application shall be on October 7, the director asserted that a committee will shortlist the proposal and the selected cultural institution/organisation shall be invited for performance in the cultural show of the Manipur Sangai Festival 2022.Meanwhile, preparations for 'Manipur Sangai Festival-2022', the biggest tourism festival of the state organised by state tourism department every year in November, has begun in a different way from the previous editions.
Though main programmes of the festival were held in Imphal and its peripheries in the previous editions, preparations have begun for holding the main programme of this year's festival in and around Keibul Lamjao National Park, the origin and the only habitat of Sangai deer.
Accordingly, cultural troupes/groups interested in taking part the festival have been informed to submit ap plication within October 4 to the office of directorate of art and culture.
For drawing more people to the festival aimed at attracting tourists and promoting eco-tourism, an Ethnic Park is being developed at Moirang Khunou near Keibul Lamjao National Park and preparations are being made to expand the festival to Khuga in Churachandpur district and Behiang in Myanmar border.
Notably, chief minister N Biren Singh inspected the ongoing construction of huts of indigenous tribes of the state at Moirang Khunou few days back and took stock of the ongoing preparations for the festival.
CM Biren had also disclosed that President Droupadi Murmu had been invited to attend the festival and necessary steps to improve roads and lodging facilities have been initiated.
