Imphal, February 13, 2013:
In a battle between the bat and ball, ESU rode on a blistering burst of 6 wickets from Shankar to restrict PCC at 49 runs and carve out a convincing win in the 1st Plate State Cricket Tournament underway at the Luwangpokpa Cricket Stadium, Luwangshangbam today.
In a low scoring match, PCC on winning the toss opted to bat and were soon at their backfoot due to some incisive bowling from the front line bowlers of ESU, Wangkhei.
Extracting bounce and maintaining a tight line and length, Shankar of ESU sent the PCC batsmen reeling coming up with a haul of 6 wickets.
So dominating were the bowlers from ESU that only one batsman from PCC, Johnson could reach the double digit figure of 12 from 23 balls.
The other notable' contributors to the score of PCC were Ranjan who compiled a painstaking 9 runs off 29 balls and Rohit 8 runs off 28 balls.
Shankar was ably aided by Rajiv who scalped two wickets.
Poor running between the wickets and the failure to read the line and length of the ball led to the debacle as PCC were bundled out for a paltry 49 in the allotted 35 overs.
Other than Johnson with 12 runs, none of the batsmen from PCC really put up a fight and tamely caved in to the attack of ESU, spearheaded by Shankar.
Faced with an easy target of 50 runs, the ESU players took it easy and did not go for the big shots and instead relied on stealing quick runs between the wickets.
Shankar was again at it with the bat, leading the score with 12 runs off 31 runs.
Roshan added a carefully composed 11 runs from 30 balls to over take the tally of PCC in just 17.3 overs for the loss of four wickets.
For PCC, Rohit and Bidison scalped two wickets each.
For his sterling performance with the ball and in the process bagging 6 wickets and for the score of 12 runs, Shankar walked away with the man of the match award.
The umpires for the match today were Baghirat and Jayenta.
Organised by the Manipur Cricket Association, this was the 15th match of the tournament which started from January 5 .
Altogether eight teams are taking part in the tournament.
In tomorrow's match WCA Yengkhom Leirak will take on THAU Thangmeiband.
