Imphal, February 13, 2013:
The State Government is set to hold a meeting with the All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM ES) tomorrow and discuss the latter's demands, informed Government spokesman M Okendro.
Urging for fulfilment of a number of demands, ATSUM had called an indefinite blockade from February 15 midnight.
Noting that some of the demands raised by ATSUM are legitimate/reasonable, Okendro exuded confidence that the scheduled meeting would be fruitful.
Meanwhile, a Cabinet meeting held today agreed to appoint Government Aided School teachers against the existing vacant posts.
The Cabinet meeting presided by the Chief Minister started at 2 pm and went on till around 7.30 pm.
Talking about recruitment of aided school teachers, Okendro stated that the same process was put on hold since 2011 on account of the State's sick financial condition.
Yet, as the situation demands, the State Cabinet gave its consent to fill up the vacant posts of aided school teachers.
The total number of sanction posts for aided school teachers is 1749 but there are only 1530 aided school teachers at present.
Because of expiry or retirement, 219 posts of aided school teachers are now vacant.
There are 604 aided schools in Manipur comprising of 501 elementary schools and 103 secondary schools.
The Cabinet meeting further gave its consent for direct recruitment against 17 MCS posts, 20 MPS posts and two post of Election Officers through MPSC.
Civil services exam for recruitment against these posts would follow the UPSC pattern and at least 12 candidates would be selected for DPC against each post, said the spokesperson.
Moreover, the State Cabinet decided to waive off loans taken by late Speaker Sapam Budhichandra and eight expired MLAs, conveyed Minister Okendro.
