TMT Chaljang lift LAYO Sports Meet football trophy

KANGPOKPI: The three-week-long Leikot Area Youth Organization (LAYO) Annual Sports Meet ended in style on Wednesday.
Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen graced the closing ceremony as chief guest while James Doujapao Haokip, CEO Sadar Hills ADC Kangpokpi, Sapam Bishwojit Singh, SDO/BDO Saitu-Gamphazol, and Robin Blacky Meitei, president SSU attended as guest of honour, functional president and special guest respectively.
In his address, MLA Haokholet Kipgen said that sport has become one of the key components to do away with drugs from society as it plays a vital role in character building and helps youths in their physical and mental growth while inculcating in them good values.
He continued that youths need to actively participate and support the government's War on Drugs for its success with innovative ideas and commitment, not with destructive criticisms.
The Leikot area comprises more than 30 villages, and LAYO is the apex youth body of the area.
The final match was played between TMT Chaljang and Phaijang Youth Club.
TMT Chaljang, after 15 minutes into the game, found the opener through Mickey but it was soon equalised after five minutes by Phaijang Youth Club as Paominlun scored a brilliant goal and the first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
In the second half, it was TMT Chaljang who found the winning goal through Haominlen in the 50th minute to lift the championship trophy.
The champions TMT Chaljang were awarded a trophy with a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while the runners-up Phaijang Youth Club got a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 30,000 .
In men's volleyball, Phaijang Youth Club took home the champions' trophy and a cash prize of Rs 20,000 while runners-up T Chaljang Youth Club were given a trophy and Rs.10,000 .
In women's volleyball, Phailengkot Youth Club emerged as the champions for a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and a trophy while runners-up Kholenphai Youth Club received a trophy and Rs 10,000 .
Lenminlal Haokip and Letkholen Vaiphei of TMT Chaljang, and Paominlun Kipgen of Phaijang Youth Club were named man of the tournament, best goalkeeper and top scorer respectively.
