Under the aegis of All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO), Kakching District United Clubs' Organisation (KADUCO) inaugurated an 11-day District Level Kang Tournament as a part of the 'Sanaroisingi Numit' at Wabagai Awang Leikai community hall on Wednesday.
According to a statement released by AMUCO, the tournament kicked off with an exhibition match between Singjamei Nupi Kangkhut and Hiyanglam Wabagai Nupa Kangkhut, and Wabagai Kangkhut and Hiyanglam Kangkhut co-ed teams.
The inaugural function was attended by AMUCO president Ph Nando Luwang as chief guest and KADUCO president Thingnam Chaoba Meetei as president while Wabagai GP pradhan Y Hemchand, Mayeng Lamjao GP pradhan U Narajit, Keirak GP pradhan E Shanti Leima, Hiyanglam GP pradhan ESantibala, social workers Maibam Dhanabir and Salam Dhanabir were present as guests of honour.
In his address, Ph Nando Luwang said that although Manipur is known all over the world for its sporting prowess, it seems the indigenous people are being unfair to themselves by focusing their whole attention only on getting government jobs and ignoring other competitive fields.
If we are not careful, our rare indigenous games would soon disappear.
Thus, collective efforts should be made to preserve and further promote our indigenous games, which are also related to the story of human life, he said.
All Manipur Kang Association president M Jadumani, who attended as resource person, explained about the game of Kang.
Meanwhile, a Sagol Kangjei exhibition match will be played between Kakching District Polo Association and Mayang Imphal Polo Club at Khul Palli Lampak Hiyanglam Wabagai Tera Pishak on February 24 .
