Meet pledges to eradicate poppy, save forest

Moltam Lhang comprising Tingkai, New Keithelmanbi along the NH-37, and Khoken areas, Kangpokpi district has unanimously resolved in its general assembly to eradicate poppy cultivation and preserve nature and forest and it's produces.
The general assembly of the civil society organisations of Moltam block, Kangpokpi district was held at Lower Pholjang village under the joint aegis of Kuki Inpi Moltam Lhang, Kuki Chief Association and Kuki Students' Organisation, Moltam Block.
The assembly was attended by 36 village chiefs apart from various youth club leaders of the area.
During the meet, the attendees deliberated at length on issues related to the welfare of the people, protection, and preservation of forest, wildlife, and nature and ultimately took a unanimous resolution in this regard.
It resolved to preserve nature and forest produce in the entire area and strictly prohibit quarrying, mining of sand and soil in the area along with strictly putting a blanket ban on hunting wildlife (animals and birds).
With an aim to fulfil the aim of 'Drug-Free Zone' in the entire area, it also collectively resolved to eradicate cultivation of poppy with the support of village chiefs and youth clubs.
The CSOs of Moltam Lhang also conveyed that they are willing at all-time to join hands with the Departments of Forest and Police in eradicating poppy cultivation as well as in protecting and preserving forest resources.
