Imphal, February 15 2023:
Skills, labour, employment and entrepreneurship minister Heikham Dingo Singh has noted that though Manipur has been blessed by nature with several unique and high quality products, very few products of the state have geographical indication (GI)Tag.
Speaking at the North East Entrepreneurs' Intellectual Property Seminar and Showcase organised by Sreemanta Sankar Mission, Guwahati in collaboration with United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) at Hotel Imphal, here, on Wednesday, minister H Dingo emphasised that getting GI Tag will ensure that the state's products are owned by its people and not get copied by others.
This will ensure and facilitate that only original Manipur products are sold outside the state and in other foreign countries, he added.
The minister also praised the entrepreneurship spirit of Manipuri women and their contribution to the state's economy.
The seminar was also attended by Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah, Sreemanta Sankar Mission general secretary Asomee Dutta Baruah, LDA chairman Asnikumar Moirangthem, USPTO intellectual property councillor for South Asia and USPTO Seminar Organising Committee chairperson Hanjabam Shubra Devi, among others.
