Imphal, February 15 2023:
Infuriated over the non-payment of wages under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), Manipur State Panchayat Parishad (MSPP) has categorically asked the authority concerned to clear the unpaid wages by February 20 or face intense form of agitations.
Addressing media persons after an emergency meeting of the Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRI) held at Porompat Panchayat Bhawan on Wednesday, MSPP president Md Abdul Latif said that the PRI members have been carrying out agitations in Delhi to highlight their grievances to the central leaders and seek their intervention in ensuring release of the pending wages by the government of Manipur without further delay.
Numerous memorandums have also been submitted to the Prime Minister, union ministers and union minister of state over the issue, he said.
Meanwhile, the agitators met Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sana-jaoba over the delayed panchayat election and urged him to conduct the election at the earliest.
