Imphal, February 15 2023:
The 22nd edition of Rupmahal Artistes Drama Festival-2022-23 organised by Rupmahal Theatre concluded on Wednesday at the hall of Rupmahal Theatre, BT road.
Langthabal MLA Karam Shyam attended the closing ceremony of the festival as chief guest while Rupmahal Theatre vice chairman S Lakhikanta was functional president.
Speaking at the event, Karam Shyam observed that people of Manipur want change a lot but there seems to be no change in lifestyle of the society except for materialistic change.
He pointed out that Rupmahal Theatre was founded by 13 educated individuals in 1943 but the theatre group seems to remain underdeveloped even after 80 years of its existence.
Development of the theatre will come when there is significant change from conditions in the past but young theatre artistes of contemporary society seem to be lacking leadership quality even after 80 years of Rupmahal Theatre's existence, he said and expressed concern if the future would regress.
While accepting that government lacks attention towards theatre, Leela, drama and other arts including literature, Karam Shyam, nonetheless, appreciated the emergence of some people who are committed towards bringing change in the pace of governance of the past 30-40 years.
He also said that a society would be able to bring changes when there are a lot of people who could shoulder responsibility.
The play 'Hingminabei Mahut Sinminnaba' bagged best production play in the festival while theatre teams and jury members were honoured with prizes at the closing ceremony.
