Imphal, October 28 2021:
Riding on trebles by O Premchand and N Maheshchand, woeful CHIKL-Chajing successfully broke their winless streak with a 6-2 win over PAMYAL-Patsoi in the ongoing 20th S Birendra Singh Memorial Super Division Football League Tournament.
As the win fired CHIKL to 3rd place in the team standings of the 6- team tournament, the team also survived the relegation threat.
CHIKL, who were in precarious condition after a winless streak in four matches, were 4-1 ahead till the break today and pumped in another two in the latter half to complete the 6-2 thumping.
Even as key players of PAMYAL were missing owing to cautions in the earlier matches, the Chajing side found it hard to break through the defence line of runaway leaders, PAMYAL and took 33 minutes for them to take the lead through O Premchand.
N Maheschand then doubled the team's lead two minutes later before O Premchand made it 3-0 the very next minute leaving the PAMYAL defence in the lurch.
N Maheschand also fired his second goal in the 38th minute as PAMYAL were finding it hard to find its composure making the scoreline read 4-0.K Rajkumar however managed to pull back a goal for the Patsoi side in the 40th minute.
The two sides were more cautious after the changeover and were cancelling out one another until W Dravid of PAMYAL further reduced the gap to 2 with a brilliant strike in the 72nd minute.
However, their hope of coming back literally ended with O Premchand and N Maheshchand taking their turns to score in the 73rd and the 79th minutes respectively to hand CHIKL a comfortable 6-2 victory.
SKYC, Awang Sekmai will meet YDO, Kwakeithel Lamdong tomorrow in the next match.
