CSO leaders advised not to join politics

Pabung Iboyaima Memorial Trust observed the 5th death anniversary of renowned social worker Thounaojam Iboyaima, who is fondly remembered as 'Father of Social Worker', at Kwakeithel Akham Leikai community hall on Thursday.
Speaking at the event, trust convener and Irabot Foundation Manipur president Th Ajit observed that late Iboyaima had shown how one can serve the public without getting into politics and as such, CSO leaders should not get into politics.
In 1972, Iboyaima contested state assembly election as a candidate of Manipur National Party but lost the election.
After that, he left politics but continued to serve the public till his last breath, which earned him the title 'Father of Social Worker' .
It is unfortunate to see many CSO leaders maintaining a low profile after joining politics, he said, while urging CSO leaders to refrain from joining politics.
He also spoke about the contribution of Iboyaima towards protecting the unity and integrity of the state among other social causes.
AMUCO president Ph Nando said that the society would be a better place if the public follow the path shown by Iboyaima.
He used to work for social upliftment, women empowerment, social justice and other issues.
His death anniversary is being observed with the objective to instil his ideologies to the present and younger generation for a better future.
On the other hand, he expressed concern over the increasing election related activities amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Public are also following the intending candidates and political parties which heighten the risk of Covid upsurge.
Election related violent activities are also increasing day by day, he noted while urging the public to help in ensuring peaceful, free and fair election.
Social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram spoke on the topic of 'Pabung Iboyaima and Attentive Public' at the event.
Poirei Leimarol Apunba Meira Paibi Manipur president L Memchoubi, Committee on Human Right chairman Phulindro Konsam, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association president Y Kunjarani, All Manipur Ethnical Socio Cultural Organisation representative BK Moirangcha, National Research Centre member N Jibit also attended the event as presidium members.
