Imphal, October 28 2021:
All Manipur Hill District Contract Basis Teachers' (Welfare) Association 2006 has decried the government for its failure to fulfil the assurance of regularising the service of contract teachers in hill areas and appealed to the government to regularise their service before the forthcoming state assembly election.
Addressing a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Thursday, association's spokesperson K Haokip said that 1332 teachers were appointed on contractual and merit basis with special local preference following an MoU signed between ATSUM and the state government on May 18, 2006.The MoU was signed subsequent to a 52-day long economic blockade launched by ATSUM over shortage of teachers in hill areas.
After service extension from time to time, the service of 772 teachers were verified and extended on December 11, 2011 .
Later on August 13, 2019, representatives of ATSUM, ANSAM and KS0 held a meeting with the chief minister at the conference hall of the CM's secretariat wherein the CM assured of regularising the service of the contract teachers within two months.
However, no initiatives have been taken up in this regard till date, K Haokip lamented.
He then appealed to the government to consider the livelihood of the teachers, who could no longer apply for other jobs, and regularise their service before the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
