Deputy EC reviews poll preparedness in Bishnupur

District magistrates of Bishnupur, Imphal West and Jiribam districts have issued orders directing all licensed arms holders to'deposit their firearms at the nearest police station, In an order issued Thursday, Bishnupur DM Ranjan Yumnam stated the order for deposit of the firearms within November 15 has been issued in compliance with the direction from Home Department as a precautionary measure in view of the upcoming assembly election, 2022 .
The order further instructed anyone desirous of appealing against the order to submit a written justification for retaining of firearms on or before November 10.Similarly, Jiribam DM W Malemnganba Chenglei and Imphal West DM Th Kirankumar,-in'separate orders, have directed all the licensed arms holders to deposit their firearms recorded in their respective licenses with immediate effect, failing which the licensee is liable to be punished for violation of government instruction under the relevant provision of Arms Act,1959 read with Arms Rules, 2016.Further, all the allied services of arms license except renewal service will not be processed in the respective districts until further instruction/order or completion of election process, whichever is earlier, the orders said.
Meanwhile, Election Commission of India (ECI) deputy election commissioner Nitesh Vyas on Thursday visited Bishnupur district to review pre-SSR activities, preparedne'ss for Special Summary Revision of Photo Electoral Rolls 2022 and other poll related issues in the district in connection with the upcoming Assembly election.
He was accompanied by ECI secretary (Manipur) Mad-husudan Gupta during the review meeting held in the presence of DEO/DC Bishnupur, ADC, SP and other officials of the district.
