TNL to hold farewell prog for ex-president Hopingson

Over two weeks after approving his resignation, TaAgkhul Naga Long (TNL) is all set to organise a farewell programme for its former president Hopingson A Shimray on October 30 .
According to a source in TNL, the district's apex customary body will be holding a farewell programme in honour of its outgoing president from 11 am onwards at TNL hall, Viewland in Ukhrul town.
It informed that the out going president Hopingson Shimray will make a speech on the occasion to formally mark end of his nearly three years of journey with the civil society, especially TNL.
The district's Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) including Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long (TNWL), Tangkhul Naga Zingsho Longphang (TNZL), Tangkhul Naga Zingturi Longphang (TNZL), Tangkhul Naga Ato Longphang (TNAL), Tangkhul Naga Aze Longphang (TNAL), Tangkhul Shanao Long (TSL), Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) and Tangkhul Katamnao Long (TKS) will be taking part in the programme, the source said.
Representatives from these CSOs will also take turns to deliver their parting speeches to ceremonially bid farewell to the outgoing president, it said.
It may be recalled that TNL Assembly approved the resignation of Hopingson A Shimray from the post of president with immediate effect on October 12 last.
Shimray submitted his resignation to the vice president K Tuisem on September 1 to enter the fray in the forthcoming Mani-pur State Assembly Elections 2022 .
Hailing from Marou village in Kamjong district, Shimray is currently intending to run for the ensuing polls on BJP ticket from 43-Phungyar AC.
He joined the saffron party on October 16 this year.
In 2017, Shimray intended to contest the state general assembly elections but had to call off after he failed to secure the Naga People's Front (NPF) ticket.
Earlier in 2016, he took voluntary retirement from the Indian Railways Account Service (IRAS) with an aim to contest the elections.
He retired as Financial Advisor and Chief Account Officer (F&B-Headquarters Guwahati).
Meanwhile, it is learnt that in view of the vacant post of its president, TNL has scheduled to conduct mid-term poll on December 9, 2021 under TNL Riyan (Constitution) Clause XVIII of Article 36 to elect its new president.
Nomination paper for the election will be issued from November 17 till 24, while the last date for submission of the same will be November 30, a source said.
Scrutiny of nomination paper will be held on December 1 and withdrawal of nomination paper will be till December 3.The intending candidates for the post will be given public platform on December 7 at TNL hall, it added.
