Imphal, June 16 2014:
Stating that the Thoubal district, which is to be imposed by seven co-operative societies based in the district on June 17, is illegitimate and unacceptable, Thoubal Weavers Co-operative Society has urged the State Government to take up necessary actions against the societies.
It also appealed to the public not to endorse the bandh as the call was made without consulting all other co-operative societies of the district.
Addressing a press meet in this regard at Manipur Press Club here toay, Biharjit Moirangthem, president of Laksmi Weavers' Society said that Ch Tombi Devi was promoted to the post of Project Manager of DIC Thoubal Handloom Section by an order issued on June 10 but the seven societies have been protesting against the promotion without any valid reason.
Pointing out that the seven societies do not represent the total 1302 handloom societies in Thoubal district, she maintained that the government should intervene into the matter and take up strict action against them failing which the remaining other societies will launch intense agitation.
