79th Young Mizo Association Day observed

The Young Mizo Association (YMA) today observed its 79th YMA Day with great fervor and enthusiasm.
All YMA branches across Mizoram organised befitting programmes in their respective places in celebration of the 79th year of the organization.
Being known popular for its contribution for the good of society, the YMA braches under Central YMA gave more time in rendering social services like cleanliness drive, construction of houses for the poor, planting of saplings, giving charity to orphanages etc.
which in fact had been started days before the YMA Day continuing till the day of observance today.
Finals of the tournaments in different sports disciplines organised by the YMA branches were also played today.
Popular crooners in the State also rocked the stages of YMA Day programmes in different places across the State.
Besides the Central YMA leaders, Ministers and MLAs were also invited at different places to grace the YMA Day programme.
YMA Day falls on June 15 but it was observed today since June 15 was a Sunday.
Being declared government holiday, all government offices and educational institutions in the state remained closed today.
One of the oldest YMA branches, the Bethlehem Branch came into being on March 24, 1964 .
At present, it has 1672 members divided into 3 Sections with 11 Sub-Committees.
It has separate YMA information centres, YMA Run, Library Building and YMA Hall Building.
YMA at present has 5 Sub Headquarters, 47 Group 47s and 772 Branches.
It also has its Branches even outside Mizoram- in Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland.
YMA was established on June 15, 1935 by Christian missionaries and first Mizo Christians.
It was formerly named Young Lushai Association (YLA) until October 7, 1947 when it was replaced to Young Mizo Association.
