Importance of one's culture and identity stressed

Along with celebrating its 16th Foundation Day, Anji Cultural Academy, Kongba today distributed certificates to participants of a two-month long training on Pung Eshei & Potloi Setpa organised by it under the sponsorship of Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, during a function held at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam stressed on the need to preserve and protect ones' identity and observed that art and culture is the vehicle to preserve and protect the identity of a people.
Lauding the efforts of ANJI Cultural Academy towards promotion of culture and identity, Gaikhangam further said that one may choose ones' choice of religion but one must not forget its root and identity.

Earlier, delivering key note address, Th Thouyangba Meitei, secretary of Anji Cultural Academy, said that the Academy was established in 1999 with the goal to produce good artistes from the State and facilitate various cultural activities.
He stated that the foundation day was supposed to be held on April 15 but postponed due to imposition of election code of conduct.
Presided over by Tongbram Mangibabu Singh, MLA of Thanga A/C, the event was also attended by Dr M Nara Singh, secretary of CPI, Manipur State Council and Bijoy Koijam, president of Manipur Olympic Association as Guests of Honor.
