Imphal, June 16 2014:
A three and a half year old girl was allegedly raped by a 28-year-old neighbouring man at Khetrigao Kshetri Mayai Leikai under Porompat Police Station in Imphal East.
The incident took place on June 10 last.
The accused Khulakpam Basir gave a Rs 10 note to the girl child to lure her into his house where crime was committed.
The parents of the victim girl child were not at home when the incident happened, Md Aslam, a relative of the girl child told a press meet at Manipur Press Club here on Sunday.
When her mother, who is a vegetable seller, returned home that day, the girl child complained of pain in her private part.
Suspicious, the mother enquired about her problem when she came to know that she had been raped by Basir, Aslam said.
Furious over the incident, the mother then rushed to the house of the accused to find out the truth, but she was beaten up by Basir's wife and sister-in-law, he added.
Then the mother lodged a complaint with the local club.
However, the general secretary of the club denied to her help, Aslam further said, adding a group of angry locals afterwards attacked and partially damaged the house of the accused on that day.
Aslam said that another complaint was also lodged at Porompat Police Station in connection with the rape incident.
But the police responded the next day only after victim's parents sought help of Young Women Organisation, Aslam added.
The RIMS Forensic Science Department then examined the child, but the result of the examination has been kept secret till date, he added.
He accused the Porompat Police Station of concealing the case in cahoots with the family of the accused.
"I appeal to the Government to punish accused Basir and personnel of the police station who have been taking side with him," Aslam said.
