7th Regional Saras fair begins

Imphal, October 24 2013:
The 12-day 7th Regional Saras Fair organised by Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department has begun from today at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound with RD & PR Minister Francis Ngajokpa inaugurating the fair as the chief guest.
The fair, also having participants from 10 other States, will have handloom and handicraft products by women artisans put on display for sale in about 200 stalls.
Noting skills of local women handloom and handicraft artisans and apprecia- ting their efforts towards supplementing family income as well as to the State's economy, Minister Francis called upon the people to encourage female artisans by purchasing the goods.
Stating that most women handloom and handicraft workers face financial constraints, he also expressed that participation of hand-loom workers from different corners of the State and the country will strengthen the bond of friendship and facilitate them share knowledge and expertise.
While MLA E Chand was the functional president of the inauguration programme, RD & PR Principal Secretary Barun Mitra and Deputy Director Nita Arambam attended the event as the guests of honour.
