NWU condemns rape, calls for justice

Condemning the rape of a young woman by a cadre of NSCN (IM) at Viola Colony, Dimapur on October 14 last, Naga Women's Union (NWU) has called upon all to raise their voice as one to bring the guilty to justice.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Wing, NWU said that rape case in Naga society in olden days was rare, and the love for fellow beings which was valued most has lost in its totality in the society today.
Rape is a savage act and is a crime committed against the whole humanity.
It is a savage attack on the dignity of an individual that results in irreparable mental, social and psychological damage apart from physical injury.
It is a grievous assault on the moral fabric of the society.
So, NWU vehemently condemned the beastly act of rape and attempted murder of an innocent young woman of 26-year old, full of promises at Viola Colony, Dimapur at around 8:30 pm on 14 Oct.
2013 by one Adani Chithuiyio, a cadre of NSCN (IM), who is connected to high profile people and is supposed to be the protector.
Such act should be condemned in one voice irrespective of people, communities or groups we belong to.
NWU expressed deep shock, strong resentment and anguish over the brutal rape incident and stand in support of the victim.
It urged the concerned authorities to bring justice to the victim.
The culprit deserves the severest punishment under the law to act as strong deterrent against committing such heinous crime in future, the statement added.
