Imphal, May 25 2014:
Expres-sing serious concern over the erratic power supply in Ta-menglong, the Inriangluang (Tamenglong) Chabuan Phuam (ICP) said that power supply irregularity in the dis-trict is mainly due to dereliction of duty by the Power department officials.
The Dept concerned has attributed regular technical failure at Rengpang Sub-Power Station, breakdown of transformer at one place or the other and disconnection of power transmission lines for disruption of electricity in Ta-menglong when actually there is no officials or staff attending at the office of the Electric Department in Tameng- long barring the Chowkidar or peon, the ICP pointed out in a press statement.
In the billing section there is no billing clerk who could correctly read the meter and accurately calculate the bill amount, and many innocent citizens are duped and double charged, it alleged.
The ICP therefore urged the authority concerned to probe the reasons for regular breakdown of the Rengpang Sub-Power Station, transformers and transmitting lines and find out whether inferior or substandard materials/equipment are being used by the contractors or the department officials.
It also demanded booking and punitive action against all those constructors and officials who are found guilty under relevant laws of the land; to ensure all Technical Officials including the Executive Engineer, Assistant, SO etc are stationed at their place of posting and be available to address the grievances of the public.
The ICP also demanded that latest know-hows including basic computer billing system be imparted to the billing clerks and maintain transparency in billing and to provide and maintain alternative power line to ensure the people of Tamenglong enjoy uninterrupted power supply as guaranteed by the Electricity Act, 2003 .
