UCM takes up free education scheme

The United Committee Manipur (UCM) has announced a grand scheme of providing formal education free of cost from Class I to X to all the children of families affected by AFSPA as well as children of people killed or wounded in the mass movement of June, 2001 .
Briefing media persons at their Lamphelpat office today, UCM president Y Nabachandra made this announcement.
As agreed between UCM and the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association, children of people affected AFSPA and those killed or wounded in the mass movement of June, 2001 would be given formal education free of cost at constituent member schools of the association.
However, the scheme would not cover children of parents who have been given Government jobs.
He further invited parents of all children eligible for the scheme to visit UCM office.
The new scheme which is a joint venture of UCM and the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association would be introduced from the current academic session although the current session is already into 4th/5th month.
UCM would put in all efforts to provide school uniforms, text books and other requirements as far as possible to students eligible for the scheme.
UCM and the All Manipur Recognised Private Schools Welfare Association would talk with mission schools to see if the same scheme can be introduced in mission schools too, Nabachandra added.
