Nagaland's Vilasier Khate clinched his second title of the 3rd North East Cash Prize Tennis Championship with a clinical victory over his State-mate K Whourie in the men's singles final played today at Officer's Club, Lamphelpat.
having won the men's doubles crown of the championship last evening, Vilasier initially faced stiff competition from Whourie in the first set but his State-mate could not maintain the momentum in the second and decisive set as the eventual champion completed 7-5 6-3 victory to claim the title and bag top cash prize of Rs 30,000 .
Runner-up Whourie was presented half the amount.
Men's singles semifinalists Lalrinawma of Mizoram and host State's T Brojendro were also awarded Rs 5000 each.
vilasier teaming up with Keneisezlie had wrested the men's doubles crown defeating T Brojen and T Ribhaskar yesterday.
Earlier, in the 45-plus veteran doubles' final, which was an all-Manipur affair, T Tuleshor and N Kangjamba Meetei toiled to a 3-6 7-5 6-0 triumph over N Dilip and P Pritam to pocket Rs 20,000 cash prize.
The runners-up pair had to be content with Rs 10,000 .
As losing semifinalists, Y Ibotombi and H Ibotombi of Manipur and Assam duo Ashis Jain and S Dutta were also awarded cash prizes.
The final matches and closing ceremony of the championship organised by Manipur Tennis Association were held with chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga as the chief guest.
The five-day tournament had witnessed 62 players from five States of the region slugging out for the top honours.
