Workshop on script writing cum production concludes

A 45-day residential script writing cum production workshop, jointly organised by Sangeet Natak Kala Akademi, New Delhi and Khenjonglang, has come to a close today.
Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Vice-Chairman Prof N Tombi, Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, Deputy Secretary (Drama) Suman Kumar and Rupmahal Theatre Chairman Keisham Heramani graced the closing function as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Prof N Tombi while speaking at the function said that selected plays written by the participants of the workshop would be presented to audience.
Both talent and hard work are equally needed in making a person to a good playwright, he said and added that budding playwrights must not stop writing even if they face many discouraging instances.
Requesting the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi to organise a North East Theatre Festival, N Tombi suggested the Akademi to exchange plays among these States.
He also suggested the Akademi to encourage the best plays of the festival with awards.
Suman Kumar while speaking at the function said that playwrights are the backbone of theatre.
As such, their talent must be nurtured in order to promote theatre, he added.
Expressing concern over giving less recognition to playwrights, Suman Kumar emphasised on the need to support them.
Keisam Heramani said that although Manipur has many theatre groups, there is less number of script writers.
Later, certificates were distributed to the participants of the workshop.
Plays titled, 'Thang Pairaba Laiphadibi' and 'Khongaonarabi' were presented to the audience of the function.
